Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston 2 Review 2022: Is it for YOU?

Uncategorized

Air rifle enthusiasts can hear the Benjamin Trail NP2 buzzing everywhere you go in the world of air rifles.

Crosman spent a lot (and money!) marketing Benjamin Trail, which features Nitro Piston2 Technology.

They promise less cocking effort. less vibration. less cocking force.

Does it sound too good to be true

Is this gun too hyped?

This review will examine the Crosman rifle.

Gun Type

The Benjamin Trail NP2 is powered with all-new nitro technology, generation 2.

(For more information about how nitro piston technology could make your gun sport even more exciting, check out this post.

Take a look at how the Nitro Piston 2 was built:

You can use different stations to build different parts.

The first step to assemble the piston is to place the piston head (or crown), inside the base.

Then they add a rubber bushing to top it all.

Then, they bolted the piston to it.

They then move it to another location where they have a handy tool that seals the piston.

They then remove the button and take the real thing (or the piston skirt button, as we always refer to them)

They install them, and we have a piston assembled.

Next, you will need to attach the endcap and gas ram.

Then they move to the trigger assembly station where the trigger housing comes with the primary seal and the trigger weight is predetermined.

The Nitro Piston 2, unlike the original Nitro Piston, has many benefits.

Most gas springs are notorious for being difficult to cock. The NP2 changed that. It reduced the effort required to cock the gas spring by as much as 10 lbs.

This is according to Tom Gaylord (air gun godfather), the easiest cocking gas piston he’s ever shot.

Furthermore, NP2 is 15% quicker and doubles your effective shooting range.

This gun delivers everything you want from an air gun.

The Benjamin Trail NP2 comes in.177 and.22 calibers.

Although.177 is a great choice for target shooting,

The king of hunting,.22, is the caliber that hunters and pest exterminators use.

(For more on the differences between .177 & .22 and which jobs they do best, see this post.)

Besides, this gun is a single–shot break barrel gun so you can only shoot once at a time.

You must break the barrel after the first shot to manually reload your pellet.

You can become a disciplined shooter with single-shot guns

Since you only have 1 shot at hitting an animal or target, you must make every shot count.

The bore is fitted with helical grooves to create a pellet spin.

Spin stabilizes the bullet and improves accuracy. It also increases its shooting range.

Additionally, the barrel is covered with a jacket.

nd containing the rapid release of compressed gas from the muzzle.

The pellet can be let go, but the shroud forces the air to use as much energy as possible before leaving the shroud. This reduces the noise.

(For more information on air rifle barrels, please see this post.

Benjamin Nitro Piston 2 Stock

The stock is synthetic black.

Synthetic stock is lighter than wooden stock and is less susceptible to weather changes.

The modern synthetic stock is durable and robust enough to withstand field use.

So it’s best for hunters and for pest eliminators who live in fickle weather.

(For more details on the in-depth comparision between synthetic and wooden stock, please see this post.

This gun comes with a thumbhole in its stock

It gives you a more comfortable grip by resting the stock on the wrist, as opposed to holding it with your hand.

For hunters and shooters who spend a lot of time in a shooting position such as bench-rest shooting, the thumbhole stock is ideal.

Ammo

Benjamin Trail NP2 uses.177 pellets and.22 pellets for its ammunition sources.

You can see that the.177 pellets are very popular among target shooters, both because they are easy to find and cheap.

However,.22 pellets are more stable than.177 pellets in terms of their trajectory so they can be shot even under windy conditions.

Aside from that,.22 is a powerful weapon and can often be used to accomplish a task in one shot.

You can take care of every problem in your yard or bring home dinner from a hunt session.

Sight

This gun doesn’t have a traditional open sight: No front sight, no rear sight.

You can shoot with greater precision using a 3-9x32 Center point scope instead of an iron sight.

32 is the front lens' diameter, in millimeters.

3-9 refers to the magnification power.

This means that the scope magnifies a picture by 3 to 9 times more than what you see without it.

The variable power scope allows you to shoot at long ranges with confidence and can make hunting days more enjoyable.

This post will provide more information about the various types of airgun sights available and which one you should choose.

Picatinny is the rail's manufacturing method.

Picatinny rails look almost identical to weaverrails except that they feature a series ridges at specific intervals along their rail.

This type of rail offers many benefits:

There are more mounting options, and scopes can be swapped between guns and rifles. You can also use different scopes within one rifle.

You don't have to worry about tube length or eye relief. Scope rings can be placed wherever you like.

Loading and Cocking

The gun is cocked:

To expose the breech, first put the gun on SAFE. Next, firmly tap the muzzle to open the mouth.

You can place the gun on your upper leg and grab the muzzle.

For cocking action, pull the barrel until it reaches its limit.

Loading the pellet

With the breech is opened after cocking, put the pellets (with the pellet’s nose lying forward into the breech).

You can then pull the barrel to its original position, until it locks, and then you are ready for fire.

Velocity and Power with Accuracy

Benjamin Trail NP2 is a.177 caliber and delivers up to 1400 FPS when using alloy pellets, and up to 1150 with lead pellets.

This rifle has a break barrel that can fire a maximum of 900 FPS in.22. It also produces 1100 FPS when it is alloyed.

This rifle is very fast compared to other air guns, so it is the best choice for long-range shooting.

Crosman Benjamin Trail NPK2 has seen a variety of shooting tests by different shooters, with positive results.

Common shooting groups include:

  • 1”- 1 1/2″ at 40-50 yards,
  • 1” at 30 yards,

  • The same hole can be found at 20 meters.
  • 5×5” target at 50 yards,
  • Bull eyes at 30 yards
  • 1” at 45 yards,
  • 1/4″ at 50 yards
  • You can light a cigarette by hitting a lighter.

This gun is extremely precise and can be used up to 50 yards.

What about power?

This nitro piston gun kills a dove at 45 yards, drops squirrels at 20-25 yards, and hits big birds (turkey/seagull/waterfowl) at 80 yards,

So it’s the gun that hunters and pest eliminators can use to deal with varmint and small animals.

(This post contains more information about the best air rifles to shoot squirrels.

Watch as AirGun Man, Glenn Elliott, the host of “Pellet Gun Turkey Hunting Television” gets the new Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston 2 air rifle in .22 caliber from Jason Douglas of Crosman, sights it in, and then takes it on 2 successful Spring 2014 Northern California Turkey Hunts including the harvest of a record size Gobbler with a giant 12″ beard at an up-close 3 steps from the blind:

Noise

This gun is extremely quiet due to Nitro Piston Technology's advanced technology.

It's a supersonic gun that has received hundreds of positive customer reviews, without one complaint about noise.

You can also use the gun in your backyard without worrying that you might disturb your neighbors

You can also take it to the hunt field with high levels of stealth.

Trigger

The Benjamin Trail NP2 includes a brand-new, enhanced trigger called CBT (Clean Break Trigger).

Crosman has put lots of effort into this trigger so it feels like it’s been tuned. Imagine a factory trigger which breaks cleanly.

It has a significantly lighter trigger-pull, not one of those so-called “lawyer” triggers that require Thor’s strength to shoot.

The shooting range and the intended use

Benjamin Trail NP2 has a shooting range of 50 yards.

This gun can be used for small game hunting, target shooting, plinking and pest control.
